News & Updates

NoticeAugust 6th, 2003
Recently there have been many forfeits. And there also has been a lot of evidence that clans simply do not know the rules or do not know how the league works. This is unacceptable. By applying to join the BGL you agreed to read the rules and understand how the league works. Most importantly, you agreed to play in matches. Clans that continue to forfeit will be removed from the league. If you forfeit 2 matches in a row or reach 3 strikes, you will be removed. There no excuse for this.

If your clan won't be able to play a particular week, make sure to tell a BGL admin BEFORE the schedule is made so you can have a Bye week.

A lot of new clans joined the BGL this week, I'm hoping everything goes smoothly.

Good Luck,

Schedule Change Official!July 30th, 2003
The BGL is officially changing it's scheduling system immediatly following this week's matches. BGL matches now play on Saturday nights. Please check the new v3.0 Rules under "II. Scheduling" for a detailed overview on how it works. You won't need to talk to other clans anymore to schedule matches, but you should still be in #bgl before the match to exchange server information with the other clan. Be sure to inform your clan that matches are always on Saturdays. Since matches are only on one day now, there should be no excuse for not having enough people.

v3.0 Rules Changelog! Thanks,

Rules and PollJuly 24th, 2003
Two quick links for today.

The Rules have been updated to v2.2. Most of it is stuff you should already know and they are being enforced for this week's matches. Changelog for v2.2

I started a Poll on the forums that everyone in BGL should vote on. If you care which maps are played, please vote and your voice will be heard! Vote Here!

Clan RemovalJuly 20th, 2003
I have just finished watching the demo of the 4th vs epoint match. Not in all my clanning experience have a seen a clan act so immature. epoint's lack of sportsmanship, complete disregard of the rules, and lack of respect to matchplay is a slap in the face to all competitive teams in all online games. They are a disgrace to anyone that calls themselves a "clan" and are removed from BGL permanently.

Using racial slurs, taunting the other clan, or otherwise using public talk without a really good reason during a match is not allowed. Switching to the other clan's team and TKing the other team because you are losing is childish and completely unacceptable in matchplay.

In other news, I added a link to the forum where I usually post information about BGL. Feel free to post there with your own questions or discuss leagueplay in general.

Schedule InformationJuly 16th, 2003
The new schedule is up, make sure you contact the other clan ASAP and set up a match time and tell me before Friday at midnight! All scheduling must be done by then!

I'd like to explain the schedule since it may seem kinda weird to some people. SFB plays rG, since rG won the title shot and SFB has the title. cav plays in the title shot this week because they are the only clan besides SFB and rG that won last week. So they get the title shot. A losing clan cannot be eligible for a title shot, so GFF was chosen from the other new clans because they were the first to join. HCoS and 2ndNJ play since they are lowest on the rankings from what is left. Then 4th plays epoint. epoint was chosen because, from the new clans, they were the next to join. Since we have an uneven number of clans, WNx has a bye, as they were the last of the new clans to join. Hopefully we will have an even number next week, I talked to a few clans that were interested in joining, they should be onboard soon.

Also be sure to read the links in the news post below. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO KNOW THIS INFORMATION.

EDIT: Rules were updated with information in the first section and the fifth section(about Ringers). Changelog for v2.1

Rules and bgl.cfg UpdatedJuly 9th, 2003
The Rules page are updated, as is the bgl.cfg file. All players in the BGL should read the rules and understand them. I added/modified quite a bit of the rules, so it is very important everyone reads them.

A few clans joined the BGL, however all of them are Inactive for a while, so -cav- will still have a Bye for the upcoming week of matchplay. Contact the other clan leaders now and set up a match time! And be sure to tell me what the date and time of your match is so I can add it to the Schedule. This must be done by Friday night. Note the map is bg_valley and will be 4on4. Goodluck to all clans!

Update: =HCoS= has joined BGL and will fight -cav- this week!

BGL Bye WeekJuly 3rd, 2003
Matches for this week are being cancelled on account of 4th of July weekend and the possible release of BGv1.2.

This means matches won't start up again until Saturday, July 12th, and must be completed by Wednesday, July 16th, thus officially starting the 5-day schedule system.

The schedules are posted and -cav- currently has a Bye, however if more clans join the BGL before July 12th, the schedule could change. Keep an eye on this site for updates.

This gives your clan enough time to enter your Rosters into the BGL Database. From this point on, the Roster system is being enforced, so make sure you add all your players to your roster. The Rules will be updated soon and if BG v 1.2 is released, you will see a new version of the bgl.cfg file too.

Have a good week off! :)

BGL Site Back OnlineJuly 1st, 2003
Sorry for the site downtime, we are now hosted by, thanks to Ben! Everything is back to being fully functional!

A lot of changes are being made in the BGL very soon. First, Wednesday is the last day of matches using the regular scheduling system. Immediatly after the matches this Wednesday, the new 5-day scheduling system will go into effect and BGL will be a World-League, no longer North-America only. As the rules aren't updated yet, I'll describe how it works for everyone right now.

Thursday: Schedules are posted on the BGL site. Clan leaders should contact the enemy's clan leader and discuss a time to have the match.

Friday: If clans have not yet set up a time, they should use Friday as another day to finalize match times. Remember, the best way to find other clan leaders is to join #bgl on GamesNet and private message them to work something out. As soon as you do, tell a BGL admin the time your match will be held. All matches must be completed before Wednesday at Midnight, Eastern Time (-05.00 GMT).

Saturday-Wednesday: Matches should take place some time within this 5-day period. The weekend is an excellent time to play matches if clans playing each other are on opposite sides of the world. All scores should be submitted on the BGL site(use your clan password) by Wednesday night at Midnight EST (-05:00 GMT). No Exceptions.

If the match did not happen by then, BGL admins will determine the punishment to be given. If clans simply could not to agree to a time, both recieve losses. 5 Days is more than enough time to come to an agreement over match times. If one clan was unavailable during the time that scheduling was supposed to be done and no time can be reached because of this, then that team will recieve a loss and a Strike against them.

If it seems as if your clan will not have enough members to play in an upcoming week, talk to a BGL admin and request a Bye week before the next week starts. That way everyone will be prepared. Thursday night is not a good time to inform everyone your clan won't be able to play!

That's about it for the new scheduling system, if you have any questions, please come to #bgl and talk to an admin as soon as you can.

Rosters will not be enforced this week because of the downtime, but if you are caught using a Ringer or Multi-Clanner you still will be punished.

Roster System In PlaceJune 22nd, 2003
I coded the roster system today as you can see from the links to the left. Rosters shows a list of all the players registed with the BGL. You may also use the Clan Database to access individual rosters or click on the clan tags on the Roster list to get rosters for individual clans.

The Manage Roster link allows clan leaders to log in and Add/Delete members to their roster. Clan leaders must either email me or message me in IRC (GamesNet #bgl - 'Slash') with the password you want to use to log in.

Please enter your roster on the site before the match on 7/2. From then on, you can only play the members on the BGL Roster list unless the other clan leader allows you to play someone else. This gives you a little less than 2 weeks to get ready. Remember, you cannot edit your roster 24 hours before or after the match. This is so clans can't add/delete possible ringers before or after the match. If you have any questions, ask an admin.

Your password is also needed to Submit Scores. Make sure you remember it and do not give it out to anyone. Managing Rosters and Reporting Scores is now the duty of the clan leaders, not me :P
